Orchestra of St. Luke’s: Classic Ellington

Miles Davis always insisted that jazz was America’s classical music, and the Orchestra of St Luke’s appears to have taken him to heart. Few jazz composers more acutely personify Davis’s observation than the legendary pianist Duke Ellington. The acclaimed New York company, under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle and orchestrated by Luther Henderson, is joined by such legendary jazz soloists as Wycliffe Gordon, Clark Terry and Bobby Watson through a series of Ellington’s master works.
